Kolkata: The BJP Tuesday held the West Bengal government responsible for a jute mill CEO`s lynching two days ago in Hooghly district of the state.
State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rahul Sinha said the failure of the state government to call for a tripartite meeting to redress the workers` grievances led to Sunday`s lynching of H.K. Maheswari, CEO of North Brook Jute Mill in Bhadreswar.
"The workers of the mill have not been getting their wages since the past five months, which is why they were agitating. Had the government taken steps to convene a tripartite meeting and redress their grievances, the incident could have been averted," he said.
Sinha also rubbished Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who held trade union members affiliated to the BJP and the CPI-M responsible for the killing.
The BJP leader also demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the killing of four Trinamool Congress activists in Raidighi of South 24-Parganas district.
"The killings are actually a result of internal feud between the Trinamool but the chief minister has been accusing us. Let there be a CBI probe into this so that the truth comes out," he said.
Four Trinamool activists were killed and three others injured after they were attacked Saturday.
Sinha also questioned the Trinamool for sending a party delegation to Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh where a tribal woman was gang raped.
"It would have been justified if the delegation was sent over an issue of political violence. But they are sending a team to probe rape, which is unfortunate. Going by Trinamool`s logic, a BJP delegation will be arriving daily in Bengal because it tops the country when it comes to crime against women," added Sinha.
