Bengal govt creates new posts in police, merge two civic bodies

 The West Bengal government has created 4,647 new posts in the state police with Kolkata Police announcing appointments in those posts to strengthen both the forces for security reasons.

Kolkata: The West Bengal government has created 4,647 new posts in the state police with Kolkata Police announcing appointments in those posts to strengthen both the forces for security reasons.

"The decision was taken in the state Cabinet today. Altogether, 3,266 posts have been created in the West Bengal Police and 1,381 posts in the city police for recruitment," state's Higher Education and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee said here today.

The state Cabinet has also cleared Rs 450 crore for development at Kandi area under Murshidabad district and its adjacent places to prevent floods there almost in every year.

In another significant move, the state cabinet today decided that the Bidhannagar and Rajarhat-Gopalpur municipalities would be merged as

Bidhannagar-Rajarhat-Gopalpur Municipal Corporation.

Mahishbathan in Sector V of the Salt Lake area would be included in it, while the newly formed Municipal Corporation would cover over seven lakh population and provide with better civic facilities, state's Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim said.

"This is a long-pending demand of the local people. The decision will boost development in the area," Hakim added.
