Bengal to set up 22 new municipalities

The West Bengal government Wednesday announced it will set up 22 new municipalities as part of its policy of decentralising administration and ensuring development through local bodies.

Kolkata: The West Bengal government Wednesday announced it will set up 22 new municipalities as part of its policy of decentralising administration and ensuring development through local bodies.
The new municipalities are scheduled to be created at Tehatta, Chanchal, Canning, Falakata, Kakdwip, Belda, Khatra, Gaajol, Buniyadpur, Bally West, Andul, Domzur, Bagnan, Bakshirhat, Thakurnagar, Amta, Kolaghat-Mecheda, Amtala, Domkol, Tarapith and Mollarpur.
The minister said discussions were on to create the 22nd municipality in Mainaguri.
