The BJP in West Bengal on Tuesday demanded postponement of the April 25 state-wide civic body elections and also repolling in all the wards of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) which went to poll last Saturday.

Kolkata: The BJP in West Bengal on Tuesday demanded postponement of the April 25 state-wide civic body elections and also repolling in all the wards of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) which went to poll last Saturday.

In a letter to the State Election Commission (SEC), the party said, "Postpone the election in all the pending municipalities which are scheduled to go to election on 25th April, 2015 immediately without delay and without any consultation with the state Government. "

It also demanded that repolling be held in all the wards of the KMC, accusing the TMC of letting loose violence on the day of the polls and turning them into a farce.

The saffron party also urged the SEC to move Calcutta High Court seeking direction in case the state government refused cooperate.

The Congress took out a rally in the city and submitted a deputation against the violence unleashed on the day of KMC polls last Saturday.
