BJP officials say party to set up new offices in West Bengal

With the BJP's membership drive receiving a huge response in West Bengal, the party is scouting for locations to open new offices here and elsewhere in the state.

Kolkata: With the BJP's membership drive receiving a huge response in West Bengal, the party is scouting for locations to open new offices here and elsewhere in the state.

The party is also planning to shift its present state headquarters on 6 Muralidhar Sen Street in the city to a new location, which will be more spacious.

"We are looking for new places both in the districts and in the city for setting up new party offices. We are planning to shift to new offices as soon as we get suitable place," BJP state president Rahul Sinha told a news agency.

The decision to open new party offices was taken in a recent meeting of office-bearers attended among others by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who has been deputed to look after BJP's affairs in West Bengal.

The party is at present divided into 36 organisational districts.

"Now we have land or offices in about six to seven places, mostly land. In the remaining 29 to 30 organisational districts we are looking for offices," BJP vice-president Sushanta Pal said.

According to BJP sources, the new offices will be equipped with desktops, laptops, wi-fi connection and e-library besides large conference halls which can accommodate at least 100-150 people at a time along with press conference room, retiring room for party leaders and workers and car parking.

"We hope to come up with the new party offices very soon. The cost of building these offices will be borne jointly by the central leadership and the state leadership," BJP Media Convener Krishanu Mitra said.

"Our party membership has crossed 20 lakhs, which is unprecedented. Activities in all the party offices across the state have increased. And we being a national party should have party offices of our own," Mitra said.

According to another party source, after new offices with hi-tech infrastructure come up, the Delhi headquarters of the BJP can directly keep tab on the organisational work going on in the districts before next year's Assembly election.
