Kolkata: At least one person died and two others were injured in an explosion at a factory here in West Bengal, police said on Friday.
As per initial reports, police have cordoned off the entire area and are investigating the matter.
The explosion took place at around 2.45 pm today when workers of the factory, which manufactures and repairs parts of ships, were cleaning a portion of land at its backside, cops said.
While Sanjeev Das, worker of the factory and a resident of Ashoknagar, was declared dead on arrival when taken to a hospital, the other two were being treated for injuries.
Meanwhile, firefighters have been pressed to service. Bomb squad personnel, along with a team from Cossipore police station, have also been rushed to the spot.
"The land is covered with heavy bushes and we are finding it difficult to search the area. We do not know if there are more bombs or explosives. The bomb squad has taken all precautionary measures for the search," a senior police officer said from the spot.
