Bombs hurled at police personnel in Bengal village, one hurt

The officer-in-charge of Parui Police Station in Birbhum district was injured on Friday when bombs were hurled at a police team which raided a village after it was informed that bombs were being manufactured there.

Suri: The officer-in-charge of Parui Police Station in Birbhum district was injured on Friday when bombs were hurled at a police team which raided a village after it was informed that bombs were being manufactured there.

OC Prosenjit Dutta has been admitted to the ICU of Suri Hospital with splinter injuries.

Additional SP of Birbhum district Ananda Roy said that a strong police contingent, led by the OC, raided Chakmondola village and seized bombs.

As the alleged bomb-makers escaped soon after the police team arrived, some people threw bombs and brickbats at the police team, injuring the OC and three other policemen.

The police is searching the area. No arrest has been made yet.

The OC told reporters that the police team went to the village on being tipped off and that the villagers threw the bombs.

"We had information and went there to seize bombs and we recovered some. The raid was continuing. Bombs were hurled at us," he said.
