Krishnagar: The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday demanded a probe as to how suspected terrorist Shakil Ahmed who was killed in the blast in a house in Burdwan on October 2, got a Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) from Nadia district.
In a letter to Nadia District Magistrate P B Salim and Superintendent of Police Arnab Ghosh, TMC Nadia district president Gouri Dutta demanded a probe to find out who had issued the certificate from local Rahmatpur panchayat for enlisting Shakil Ahmed's name in the voters list of Nadia.
The TMC leader said Shakil Ahmed's name was found in 77/67 part of voters list of Barbakbur under Karimpur Block 2 of Nadia since 2007.
Dutta said that since 1977, the CPI(M) was in power in Rahamatpur gram panchayet (under which the Barbakpur village is situated). The panchayat member, pradhan and the MLA all were from CPI(M).
"I demand the police and district administration to find out who had issued the certificate for Shakil Ahmed to enlist him in the voters list. As 12 years have not crossed since 2007, the search for the documents will be available and it will prove who had helped Shakil to get the EPIC card," Dutta said.
The TMC leader alleged that Shakil Ahmed was a Bangladeshi citizen and demanded the arrest of the person who had issued the certificate for his enlistment in the voters list.
Dutta further alleged that Shakil Ahmed married Rajira Bibi alias Rumi the daughter of Ajijul Hossain Gazi. But while his name was enrolled in the voter's list, he was shown as son of Gazi and not son-in-law.
The District Magistrate P B Salim said "we will look into the matter".
Shakil Ahmed and Sovan Mandal were killed in the blast in the house at Khagragarh locality of Burdwan town on October 2.
Four persons - Rajira Bibi alias Rumi, widow of Shakil Ahmed who died in the blast, Amina Bibi, Hafeez Mollah alias Hasan and Sheikh Hakim alias Hasan Saheb have been arrested in the case by the police.
