Shilda (WB): The daring Maoist assault on
the Shilda Eastern Fronter Rifles camp ended the "bright
career" of an undergraduate student who was on his way to home
from Jhargram and was killed in the crossfire.
Gurudas Hansda, a BA (second year) student of Shilda
college, was returning to his home in Bankura district from
Jhargram when the bus on the roof of which he was travellng
was intercepted by the marauding Maoists.
He had nowhere to escape as the Maoists opened fire. He
fell down from the bus and was taken to the Belpahari Primary
Health Centre where he died of his head injuries, his father
Sahebram Hansda said outside the Jhargram sub-divisional
hospital where the body was shifted for a post-mortem.
"On getting information, I immediately rushed to the
Belpahari hospital, but when I reached there he had already
succumbed to his injury suffered when he fell down from the
bus after taking the bullet," his father said.
Meanwhile, asked about the death of a civilian, state DGP
Bhupinder Singh said, "A Maoist sympathiser was killed in the
encounter. I cannot say whether he was a student."
Classmates and family members remember Gurudas as a shy
and promising student.
Lakshmiram Hansda, Gurudas`s classmate and cousin brother
who accompanied him on the bus, told PTI that he was a
meritorious student and the only hope of his family.
"He spent most of his time in the hostel amidst books
while we spent time with friends," Lakshmiram said.
