Kolkata: The CBI has filed over a dozen charge sheets against a sacked manager of Canara Bank and 25 others for allegedly defrauding the bank to the tune of nearly
Rs five crore.
The then senior manager of Canara Bank, Kolkata R K Goswami during 2005-2007 entered into a criminal conspiracy with private persons and fraudulently sanctioned
and disbursed loans in the name of 10 non-existing and 12 existing proprietary units, a CBI spokesperson alleged.
"He also accepted false audited balance sheets, valuation reports, stock statements, prepared false credit investigation and pre-sanction inspection reports in respect
of the parties, resulting in wrongful loss of Rs 4.78 crores to the Bank," the spokesperson said.
Apart from Goswami, the other prominent persons chargesheeted in the case are Terence Tsang and Anil Kumar. "The senior manager has since been dismissed from the services of Canara Bank. Tsang (main beneficiary) was arrested by CBI during investigation on September 21 this year," the spokesperson added.
The agency has filed a total of 13 charge sheets in the special CBI court here for allegedly causing wrongful loss to the Canara Bank, Burrabazar branch Kolkata to the tune of Rs 4.78 crores, he said.
