The Centre has dispatched 30,000 paramilitary force personnel to West Bengal to assist the local authorities in ensuring free, fair and peaceful Assembly elections next month.

New Delhi: The Centre has dispatched 30,000
paramilitary force personnel to West Bengal to assist the
local authorities in ensuring free, fair and peaceful Assembly
elections next month.

The central forces have already been deployed in
sensitive areas, including Maoist-dominated West Midnapore
district.

"So far, situation in West Bengal is peaceful. The forces
have been sent to ensure that the election process goes
peacefully," a Home Ministry official said.
The six phased election to the 294-member West Bengal
Assembly begins on April 18 and will end on May 10.
