Christians take out Easter rally in Kolkata

 With greetings and wishes, around 6,000 Christians walked in different parts of the city to spread the message of peace and love on the occasion of Easter on Sunday.

Kolkata: With greetings and wishes, around 6,000 Christians walked in different parts of the city to spread the message of peace and love on the occasion of Easter on Sunday.

Organised by the Diocese of Calcutta and the United Christians of Kolkata, the Easter rallies witnessed the participation of members of 85 churches, social orgnisations and schools of Kolkata under the umbrella of the church.

"Today we celebrate the joyous resurrection of our lord and saviour, Jesus Christ. Easter is the day that brings not only the awesome celebration of our Risen Lord, but also the hope and promise of our salvation," said Bishop of Calcutta Ashoke Biswas.

The rallies started from Bishop's College, Sacred Heart Church and Entally Baptist Church in central Kolkata and culminated at St. James School, while another began from Oxford Mission in south Kolkata and concluded at the Church of the Epiphany, Thakurpukur, in the city outskirts.

Christians from all walks of life participated in the processions, said Biswas.
