Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday inaugurated two police commissionerates in Bidhannagar and Barrackpore in the state, aimed at ensuring better functioning of the force.

She said her government had opened four commissionerates and another two would be opened in Haldia and Krishnanagar shortly.

Addressing at the inaugural function, Banerjee said Bidhannagar municipality would be converted into corporation in line with Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the same was expected in a year's time.

Calling for better police-public relationship, the chief minister said her government was seized with the housing problem of the force and would do everything for the policemen and their families.

However, she said that the police ought to be strict in the interest of maintaining law and order.
