Kolkata: Amidst tight security, West Bengal
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee unfurled the tricolour and took
the slaute at an impressive parade on the 65th Independence
Day here on Monday.
At 10.30 am Banerjee stepped on to the podium in front
of Writers Building, the state secretariat, escorted by the
Commissioner of Kolkata Police RK Pachnanda, where she
unfurled the national flag in the presence of dignitaries at
a select gathering.
The Kolkata Police band played the national anthem.
Before the unfurling of the flag, the Chief Minister was
given a guard of honour by the Kolkata Mounted Police and
different sections of the city police.
Banerjee then offered floral tributes at the martyrs`
tomb and the statue of revolutionaries Binoy, Badal, Dinesh.
Banerjee also paid tribute to Rishi Arobindo Ghosh on
his birthday today.
