Expressing displeasure over shoddy investigation in rape case, Calcutta High Court directed Commissioner of Kolkata Police to submit report in 7 days explaining why victim was not medically examined.
Kolkata: Expressing displeasure over shoddy investigation by the police in an alleged case of rape, the Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the Commissioner of Kolkata Police to submit a report within seven days explaining why the victim was not medically examined.
Justice Sanjib Banerjee passed the direction on a petition seeking a CBI probe into the death of 22-year-old Aminul Islam.
Islam had immolated himself before the Karaya police station on December three last year alleging that the police were trying to hush up a complaint of rape and were harassing him because he helped the alleged 16-year-old victim.
Aminul died on January one this year.
His mother Sahana Izaz moved the High Court seeking a CBI probe into the death of her son and the circumstances leading to it claiming that Kolkata Police would be biased as the allegations were against them.
Justice Banerjee, while going through the papers of the case diary of the rape, found that the mandatory medical test of the alleged victim had not been done.
Expressing displeasure at this, Justice Banerjee directed the commissioner to explain through an affidavit within seven days why the test was not done.
