Barasat: Unidentified assailants shot at and critically injured Basirhat Block president of
Congress Siraj-ul Bense in North 24 Parganas district, triggering protests in the town.

The assailants fired at Bense late last night at Basirhat town, Superintendent of Police Rahul Srivastav said.
Bense has been admitted to R G Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata in a critical condition, the SP said.

To protest the firing, Congress workers blocked railway tracks and roads at Basirhat town this morning, police sources said.
The protest was lifted after senior police and district administration officials persuaded them to lift the blockade.
