Congress withdraws support to Mamata govt in West Bengal Kolkata: Completing the divorce formalities with the Trinamool Congress, the Congress on Saturday withdrew support to West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee government after its six ministers handed over their resignation to the chief minister.

All the Congress ministers - two cabinet-rank and four ministers of state - went in a body to Banerjee's chamber at the state secretariat, Writers' Buildings, here and handed over their resignation to the chief minister a little after 5 pm.

"As per the directive of the party, the high command and the state Congress we have submitted our resignation to the chief minister," said party leader Manas Bhunia, who held portfolios of micro, medium and small enterprises, textiles and irrigation and waterways minister in the cabinet.

Abu Hena, holding charge of food processing and fisheries, was the other cabinet-rank minister from the Congress.

Later, the ministers along with state Congress president Pradip Bhattacharya and legislative party leader Mohammad Sohrab, went to the Raj Bhavan and communicated to Governor MK Naryanan their decision to withdraw support from the Banerjee government.

The Congress' exercise came a day after a similar act was performed by the Trinamool Congress in New Delhi.

The Trinamool formally pulled out of the United Progressive Alliance and its six union ministers gave their resignation letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday in protest against the hike in diesel price, allowing FDI in multi-brand retail trade and putting a cap on subsidised cooking gas cylinders.

The Congress was the junior partner in the Trinamool-led regime in West Bengal since it took charge 16 months ago in May, 2011 after ending the 34-year rule of the Left Front.

The withdrawal of support will not have any impact on the 16-month-old Banerjee government as her party has a comfortable majority in the 294-seat state Assembly.

The Congress has 42 members, two more than the Communist Party of India-Marxist's 40, and could stake claim for the post of leader of opposition.

Yes she is right and understand the problem of commanman not like UPA only to think about carporate ,share market and rich people....Looting India every day with new scam/Ghotaala. Now they want to invite FDI to come and take over the retail market....Why indians are stupid don`t know how to manage retail business. Offering the Lolypop of Job.....Want to create slave in India. No problem let FDI come in other sectores but it is not good to come and take over Retail Market of India..For economic reforms.... why not reduce the Govt expenses , reduce all ministers salaries stop free traves of all govt employees let then buy ticket and travel as commanman take all corruption money back from them who having the corruption money.Reduce import of useless things hike tax on luxury goods Instate of hiking fule price and cap on Lpg stop troubling commanman as already suffering with high Inflation.Mamata Banerjee is right fighting for poor public.

Mamta is too agressive and has a lack of vision. She is a leader of `Angootha chaap` people who only care about their next meal...not the nation. Good that UPA will have better allies now.

Mamata Banerjee has proved her worth. With or without her support, the Central Govt. is able to implement the economic reforms which are absolutely necessary for the development of our country. Now it is better if she can maintain silence.

It is better the congress resigned from Mamtas assembly,if not, they are suppose to be thrown out as they are totally functioning against their election manifesto. Mr. Singh told that within 100 days in power the rates will be reduced and there may be break in the rates of all essential commodities, now failing utterly in their words, they are doing atrocities to put the common man in trouble by increasing rates to Diesel, cooking gas, and also making comments that Diesel is used by rich people then there is no harm in increasing rates on it. The minister who is in education dept. is such a stupid to utter such comments and I do not know how is still posessing the chair of the education minister and how he is shameless.

Hi, Just sat through the nonsense address to the nation by Manmohan Singh our PM. Hey, Manmohan JI , Why are you confusing SECURITY of our nation with ECONOMIC GROWTH? We have been enslaved by the same Christian white invaders you are selling out India to now.. Punch into google seach WALMART IS NOT GOOD FOR INDIA- VADAKAYIL We built super computers, we placed our flag on the moon, we can send nuclear missiles to England and Japan on our own , the entire IT technology for London 2012 Olympics , for all 36 events was from India.— nevertheless we need help to run a shopkeeping chain with ozonized vegetable coolers , like Reliance Fresh, 65 years after we broke the chains of slavery, right?. Such is the power of “lobbying” bribes on our politicians . And when your dear Madame, Sonia Gandhi gave away 10 Billion USD to Italy Zone, nay Euro Zone (so they can drink premium wines , while our women defecate in the open), money grew on Indian trees? 70% of the small “pop and mom” stores in Thailand shut down after Walmart went in. FDI in multibrand retail has been rushed in, as UPA2 wants to deflect attention from the THORIUM MEGA SCAM, where politicians will go to jail. Dorks shall lay off ! Capt ajit vadakayil ..
