CPI(M) desperate to cling to power, says Mamata

TC chief Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that in its "desperate" bid to cling to power, the Left Front had been tarnishing the image of opposition parties by labelling them as Maoists.

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata
Banerjee on Thursday alleged that in its "desperate" bid to cling to
power, the Left Front had been tarnishing the image of
opposition parties by labelling them as Maoists and
implicating them in false cases ahead of Assembly elections.
"If there is any protest by Trinamool Congress and other
opposition parties against the state government, the CPI(M)
makes frantic bid to suppress their voice by dubbing them as
Maoists with the Assembly polls nearby," she told a rally
here.

In an obvious reference to the police raid on a Trinamool-
run relief camp in Midnapore town on January 31 and arrest of
two persons on the charge of having Maoist link, Banerjee
said, "I would like to reiterate that the CPI(M) can go to any
extent to achieve its end by implicating its opponents in
false cases."

"I would again ask the LF to clarify to the people from
where Maoists have come to West Bengal. This government is
answerable to the people if it was aware of this or not," she
said.
She cautioned the minorities against such plots by the
CPI(M) which had dished out false promises of reservation for
them.

"The Left Front government`s announcement of reservation
for minorities is a total bluff only to get votes," the
Trinamool chairperson said, alleging that the government had
failed to look after the needs of the minorities in its
34-year rule.

Banerjee assured the people that her party was alive to
the demands of minorities and would do whatever was possible
to see that they do not remain economically and educationally
backward.
