Facing threat from Trinamool Congress, a local CPI(M) leader allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree at Berugram in Burdwan district, police said.

Burdwan (WB): Facing threat from Trinamool
Congress, a local CPI(M) leader allegedly committed suicide by
hanging from a tree at Berugram in Burdwan district on Tuesday,
police said.

The body of Sadhan Chandra Sardar (50), member of CPI(M)-
run Berugram Gram Panchayat, was found hanging from a tree
near his house this morning.
A suicide note claimed that he had taken the extreme step
as local Trinamool Congress leaders had threatened him to
eliminate him if he continued to be a member of the CPI(M).

Sardar`s son Manoj lodged an FIR against two local
Trinamool Congress workers charging them with abetment to
suicide.
Local Trinamool Congress leaders, however, said Sardar
was a victim of CPI(M) infighting since he was facing charge
of misusing panchayat fund.

Superintendent of Police, H Kabir said police was yet to
arrive at a conclusion since investigation has just begun.

The incident came a day after six-time CPI(M) MLA and
former MP Mostafa Bin Quasem (70) allegedly committed suicide
by leaping to death from the fourth floor of the MLA hostel in
Kolkata.
