Crime against women: Bose calls for stricter laws

Left Front Chairman Biman Bose on Sunday lamented West Bengal topped the list when it came to atrocities against women and demanded amendments to laws for ensuring stricter punishment to the perpetrators.

Darjeeling: Left Front Chairman Biman Bose on Sunday lamented West Bengal topped the list when it came to atrocities against women and demanded amendments to laws for ensuring stricter punishment to the perpetrators.
"We need amendment to the legislation to put a lid on the incidence of gang-rapes. It is a sad pointer that despite having a woman at the helm, the state tops the number of attacks against women, including gang-rape," Bose told a meeting of Sara Bharat Krishak Sabha at Rangapani in Darjeeling Hills.

Bose, who expressed outrage at the brutal attack on the girl in Delhi, said he did not have words to console the bereaved family. "I don`t know what to say, I was shocked after hearing the news," he said.

The CPI(M) state secretary also called for tabling food security legislation and boosting the PDS network all over Bengal.
