Kolkata: Two West Bengal ministers on Wednesday
differed over the manner of Saturday`s arrest of People`s
Committee against Police Atrocities leader Chhatradhar
Mahato by the police posing as journalists.

While RSP leader and PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami said
there was nothing wrong in police posing as journalists to nab
the media-saavy Mahato, CPI leader and Water Investigation
Minister Nandagopal Bhattacharya disapproved of the method
adopted by the police to apprehend the tribal leader.
"I don`t think it will jeopardise the work of
journalists", Goswami said adding that the police could arrest
Mahato without bloodshed which should be appreciated.

"I am not giving any certificate to the police but at the
same time I can`t belittle their success.

"Journalists also suppress their identity during
sting operations. No questions are raised then. Why hue and
cry now?" he said.
Bhattacharya, however, said "the police should not have
made the arrest this way. I will raise the issue at the LF
meeting."
