EC seeks report from WB Home Dept on `Majid Master` visit

Election Commission sought a report from the West Bengal Home Department about the alleged visit by `Majid Master`, against whom criminal cases are pending, to the CPI(M) headquarters here to meet CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

Kolkata: Election Commission on Saturday
sought a report from the West Bengal Home Department about the
alleged visit by `Majid Master`, against whom criminal cases
are pending, to the CPI(M) headquarters here to meet Chief
Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sunil Gupta
said that the EC had sought the report on the basis of a
complaint lodged by Trinamool Congress.
Gupta said that his office had sought a report in this
regard from the state Home department.
Majid Ali also known as `Majid Master` is a CPI(M)
member who has several criminal cases pending against him.
All-India Trinamool Congress general secretary and
Union minister of state for Shipping Mukul Roy has lodged a
complaint with the CEO`s office here about the alleged visit
by Majid Master to CPI(M) office to meet the chief minister
yesterday.
The TC alleged that it was surprising how a person,
"against whom criminal cases are pending", could meet the
chief minister and move about freely.
