Eight dacoits arrested in Bardhaman district

Eight dacoits were arrested on their way to commit a crime in a jewellery shop from Purbasthali, about 65 km from Bardhaman.

arrested on their way to commit a crime in a jewellery shop
from Purbasthali, about 65 km from Bardhaman, the police said.

Acting on a tip off, police intercepted a car, carrying
them and took them to custody. The eight-member gang, led by
Sheikh Sonabul, was coming from the pilgrim town of Nabadwip
in Nadia district to loot a jewellery shop at Samudragarh,
near Purbashali.

Police recovered from them three revolvers and some
amount of explosives besides sharp weapons.

Sheikh Sonabul was wanted in several cases of dacoity
and abduction both in Bardhaman and adjacent Nadia districts,
police said.
