A major fire broke out in a market gutting goods worth Rs 1.5 crore near Purnia railway station in Sadar police station area in Bihar's Purnia district, a police officer said Thursday.

Purnia: A major fire broke out in a market gutting goods worth Rs 1.5 crore near Purnia railway station in Sadar police station area in Bihar's Purnia district, a police officer said Thursday.

The fire broke out at Khuskibagh vegetable market late last night and spread to adjoining areas in no time trapping grain and garments shops, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manoj Kumar said.

Several fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames, he said, adding goods worth about Rs 1.5 crore have been gutted.

The reason behind the blaze was under investigation, he said.
