First Maoist-CRPF ambush under Banerjee govt

Maoists ambushed a CRPF patrol party and injured three securitymen at Lakshmanpur forest in West Midnapore district on Thursday, which is the first incident since the Mamata Banerjee government came to power in West Bengal.

Midnapore (WB): Maoists ambushed a
CRPF patrol party and injured three securitymen at Lakshmanpur
forest in West Midnapore district on Thursday, which is the first
incident since the Mamata Banerjee government came to power
in West Bengal and has expressed its willingness for talks to
resolve problems.
Police claimed that four to five Maoists were also
injured when the CRPF personnel returned the fire and were
believed to have been taken away by the ultras.

One of the securitymen was seriously injured and was
rushed to Kolkata, while the rest were treated at the CRPF
medical camp in the area.

A combing operation was launched in the area after the
ambush.

The Chief Minister had last month given a call to
Maoists to lay down arms and promised a special socio-economic
package and talks.

She had assured that the joint forces would be withdrawn
from the tribal Jangalmahal area once it was freed of arms
and peace restored.
"Those willing to surrender will be offered
rehabilitation and a special package. The government will not
act in a revengeful manner and is always ready for talks,"
Banerjee had said.
