Ganga Sagar: With the West Bengal government building tourist cottages in Ganga Sagar island, local fishermen are worried about loss of livelihood as their fish landing station is closeby.

A group of 100 fishermen today protested near the banks of the island where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee went to inaugurate the projects related to tourism and development.

"We fear that we will loose our land as our fish landing station is close to the tourist cottages. Around 2,000 fishermen are dependent on it. This tourism project can affect our livelihood," said Ajgar Mullick of the Sagar Sangam Marine Somonmvoy Samiti.

They also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the chief minister who said, "We will not bring development by giving you any trouble".

After being assured by the local MLA, the fishermen ended their protest.
