Jalpaiguri: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha
(GJM) on Wedesday blamed ruling CPI-M for the ongoing unrest in the
Darjeeling hills and adjacent Dooars area and said the people
will not tolerate any police cover to the trouble makers.

"CPI-M goons are behind the the chain of violence
unleashed in Darjeeling hills and Dooars area. Instead of
arresting the culprits, police are after GJM supporters and
putting them behind the bar on false cases", GJM spokesman
Harkabahadur Chhetri said after a meeting with the
district administration here.

"The entire exercise was being carried out under the
instruction of the Left Front government to defame the GJM",
Chhetri claimed and warned that the people would no longer
tolerate such partisan attitude of the police and
administration.

Demanding immediate withdrawal of nearly 14-day-long
prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC from Dooars area, he
said it was against the spirit of democracy.

He also said the administration had no reply to
justify yesterday`s police firing.

District Magistrate, Bandana Yadav, however, said
prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPc would continue in
Dooars area till normalcy was restored.

Besides, two companies of CRPF would be deployed in
Darjeeling district to maintain order, she said.

Yadav along with SP Anand Kumar held the meeting with
a six-member GJM team led by Chhetri to discuss modalities to
restore order in the troubled hills and its adjacent areas.
