Governor summons HS council president

West Bengal governor MK Narayanan said he had summoned the president of West Bengal Council for HS Education to enquire about the agitation by students.

Kolkata: West Bengal governor MK Narayanan on Monday said he had summoned the president of West Bengal Council for HS Education to enquire about the agitation by students of several schools who failed to qualify for appearance in board examination.

"I have called the president of the council to know the details from him. I will find out what he has to say," Narayanan told reporters at the convocation in the Jadavpur University.

During his convocation speech, Narayanan regretted that educational institutions, including universities, had become conflict zones causing hurt to the environment.

He was referring to a spate of incidents in the city and districts in which students, who failed to clear the tests ahead of the final board examinations, locked up teachers and principals demanding that they be favourably marked.

"It is unfortunate that educational centres have become conflict zones where disputes often spill out on the streets. It is needed that students should respect teachers and not otherwise," the Governor observed.
