Gunjan convicted for abduction and death of student

A local court Friday found five persons, including Gunjan Ghosh, who is currently serving life sentence in two cases of murder and abduction, guilty of abduction and death of a youth seven years ago.

Koley (22) in 2004.

The quantum of punishment will be announced tomorrow.

According to prosecution, Koley was abducted from
Tiljala area in southern outskirt of Kolkata on November 10,
2003. A sum of Rs 50 lakh was demanded as ransom from Koley`s industrialist father on November 11, but the amount was reduced to Rs ten lakh the following day.
Koley was found in an unconscious condition on
November 13 near NRS hospital in Kolkata. His treatment
continued for about four months before he died in a hospital
in Chennai on March 15, 2004.

Koley came to his residence at Lake Town in Kolkata
on a vacation from Bangalore where he was a student of an
engineering college.

Besides the Ghosh couple, other convicts were
Dharmendra Singh, Munna Singh and Vikram.

Gunjan (28), serving life imprisonment for abducting
a Salt Lake girl Roma Jhawar, was handed a second life term by
a Sealdah fast-track court on April 26 last for murdering his
pool-car business partner Biswajit Dey in July 2004.
