Kolkata: Incessant rains resulted in waterlogging and traffic snarls in the metropolis, as the Met department forecast heavy downpour in the Gangetic West Bengal region till Tuesday.
The showers led to waterlogging in important areas like Mahatma Gandhi Road, Chittaranjan Avenue and Hare Street were under knee-deep water, leading to massive traffic jams.
"A cyclonic circulation has formed over the Gangetic West Bengal coast," Regional Met department director GC Debnath said.
He said the cyclonic circulation, coupled with the monsoon trough passing through Gangetic West Bengal would bring heavy rains to all districts. Some districts were
drought-affected following deficient rainfall so far.
Heavy showers lashed the city and adjoining districts last night bringing relief to the people suffering from heat and humidity here.
