Krishnagar: Trinamool Congress
chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that they would set up
industries without taking agricultural land from the farmers
if voted to power in the coming Assembly polls in West Bengal.

"I have protested CPI(M)-led Left Front government`s
grabbing of farmland in the name of setting up industries. I
sat in a hunger strike for 26 days seeking justice for the
farmers of Singur. We will never take farmland to set up
industries," she said in a poll rally here.

Banerjee said they would set up industries and bring
in investment and development in West Bengal where Left Front
has been ruling for the past 34 years.

She brushed aside the allegations of CPI(M) leaders
that Trinamool Congress will take away the land deeds (patta)
of poor people.

"These are all baseless allegations. We want to
develop West Bengal by upgrading the status of the people, not
by evicting them," she said.
