Kolkata: A woman member of the Communist Party of India-Maoist`s (CPI-Maoist) Jharkhand unit was arrested on Monday in West Bengal`s Burdwan district, police said.
"Akanksha was arrested from her hideout in Kanksa," Additional Director General of Police (Criminal Investigation Department) Raj Kanojia told a news agency over phone.
The zonal committee member was wanted by the Jharkhand Police for her involvement in at least 10 cases, including murder, sedition and damaging government property.
"Jharkhand Police communicated to us that she was hiding in Kanksa and sought our help in arresting her. Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of the CID along with Jharkhand Police arrested Akanksha this (Monday) afternoon," said Kanojia.
Akanksha would be presented in a court in Burdwan by Tuesday and will be taken to Jharkhand on transit remand.
She had been hiding in Kanksa for the past few months to evade arrest but she used to operate from her hideout in Burdwan, a senior police officer said.
