Joint forces foil Maoist bid to blow up bridge

Joint forces personnel on Monday had an armed encounter with Maoists and foiled their attempt to lay a landmine aimed at blowing up a road bridge in the Jangalmahal region in West Midnapore district.

an armed encounter with Maoists and foiled their attempt to
lay a landmine aimed at blowing up a road bridge in the
Jangalmahal region in West Midnapore district.

State`s DGP Bhupinder Singh said Arjun, a Maoist and
several of his accomplices were injured in the exchange of
fire near Jorabridge in the area.

However, all of them managed to escape, he said.

Some landmines had been recovered from the area and
police were of the view that Maoist leader Kisenji`s assistant
Bikash and one Tara were leading the operation.

"It is suspected that some locals might have alerted
them about the joint forces` presence in the area," Singh
said.

He said police had information that Bikash was moving
in areas like Salboni, Silda and Lalgarh.
