The estate officer and admission committee chairperson of Kalyani University were assaulted on Tuesday allegedly by students and employees agitating to press their demand for resignation of the Vice-Chancellor.

Krishnagar: The estate officer and admission committee chairperson of Kalyani University were assaulted on Tuesday allegedly by students and employees agitating to press their demand for resignation of the Vice-Chancellor.

The estate in-charge Pratap Santra and Admission Committee chairperson Prof Sujata Chowdhury were beaten up and injured by the agitators this morning, the police said.

They were demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Rattan Lal Hangloo claiming that the results of ten thousand undergraduate students of colleges affiliated to the University were declared as 'incomplete' a month ago.

Hangloo rubbished the claims, saying, "The incomplete results of 380 students are being processed and would be declared soon."

The agitators sat in front of the main gate of the VC's office building since 11 am.

"The agitators damaged CCTV cameras and furniture of the university. Police and Education Minister Partha Chatterjee have been informed," he said.

Hangloo will meet minister Chatterjee tomorrow.

The injured officials have been admitted to a local hospital.

The VC said they have been trying to bring a rule of law and discipline in the University campus which the employees and students dislike.
