Bhubaneswar: CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat on Thursday criticised the Trinamool Congress led government in West Bengal for rise in incidents of rape in the state.
"It is shocking that the Trinamool Congress government led by Mamata Banerjee is not considering the incidents of rapes and gang rapes seriously," Karat told reporters here.
"We expect the government will take firm action against the culprits,” he said.
Alleging that people raising their voice against such crimes were being attacked, Karat said the incidents had given a bad name to the state.
When the reporters drew his attention to a series of gang-rapes and murder cases in Odisha, Karat said "We are for strong action against rape culprits anywhere in the country."
