Kolkata: A major fire broke out on the
third floor of a 4-storey building in the city`s central
Colootola area, forcing firemen to evacuate residents.
However, there is no report of any casualty, police
The fire broke out at around 6.30 pm inside a medical
equipment godown in the building.
Sixteen fire tenders rushed to the spot and it took
about four hours to bring the blaze under control, police
Senior police officers, including the Kolkata Police
Commissioner G M Chakraborty, also rushed to the spot.
Fire Brigade sources suspect an electrical short
circuit to be responsible for the fire.
The building has many godowns and locals alleged that
most of them are illegal.
