Kolkata: The Left Front in West Bengal has demanded to immediately declassify the secret files related to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and declare his birthday on January 23 as "Desh Prem diwas".
In his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday, Left Front chairman Biman Bose asked Modi to "take immediate necessary action to declassify all secret files relating to Netaji."
In his letter to the PM and in another letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bose also demanded the Centre and West Bengal government to declare January 23 as "Desh Prem Diwas".
Bose wrote to the PM that there has been a persistent demand among people and it was raised in Parliament too that secret files relating to Netaji and INA be declassified to unearth the mystery of his disapperance... "The previous UPA government has refused to do so."
Continuing, he said, "We are much concerned about some media reports that your PMO has repeated the old pleas of the previous government for not declassifying a few particular secret files. We on behalf of the Left Front urge you to reconsider the issue."
Bose also urged in his letter that the BJP government at the Centre should declare January 23 as "Desh Prem Diwas".
"We on behalf of all Left parties urge you personally and the government of India to declare January 23 as Desh Prem Diwas," the letter said.
Bose in his letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also urged the state government to declare January 23 as Desh Prem Diwas.
