Kolkata: West Bengal`s ruling Left Front
on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against
a daily here for publishing a news item listing the names of
possible Trinamool Congress ministers if the party came to
power in the state, which it alleged came in the category of
`Paid News`.

"The Left Front has lodged a complaint against a daily
for publishing paid news. We are enquiring into it," state
Chief Electoral Officer Sunil Gupta told reporters.

In a letter to the Commission, Left Front chairman
Biman Bose said the news item was accompanied by photographs
of the possible ministers and their portfolios and said that
the item was "motivated and completely unusual" before
completion of all the six phases of the ongoing polls.

"This news item is completely planted. This news has
been written in a planned manner to influence the voters of
the next two phases of election.... It is evident that the
news is nothing but paid news," Bose said demanding immediate
action.

In a separate statement, Chief Minister Buddhadeb
Bhattacharjee said an "imaginary" list of ministers was being
circulated to demoralise the Left activists at a time when the
Front was poised to return to power in the state for the
eighth time.

When contacted, the newspaper declined to comment on
the report.
