LF, Trinamool announce candidates for WB by-poll

The ruling Left Front on Tuesday announced its candidates for the November 7 byelection to 10 assembly seats in West Bengal.

Kolkata: The ruling Left Front on Tuesday
announced its candidates for the November 7 byelection to 10
assembly seats in West Bengal which would be a fresh trial of
strength between the CPI(M)-led coalition and the Trinamool
Congress-Congress alliance.

Of the 10 seats, CPI(M) will contest in five and its ally
CPI in two. The other LF constituents RSP, Forward Bloc and
DSP will contest one seat each, Front chairman Biman Bose told
reporters here.

The five CPI(M) candidates are Dhanapati Roy (Rajgunj
SC), Md Esharuddin Mandol (Sujapur), Pankaj Ghose (Bongaon),
Kaustav Chatterjee, state secretary of SFI (Alipur) and Ramala
Chakraborty, wife of former Transport minister Subhas
Chakraborty from Belgachia East.

The two CPI nominees are Prasanta Mukherjee (Serampore)
and Satyendra Nath Ponda (Kanthi South), while RSP has fielded
Benoy Bhusan Karketta from the Kalchini SC seat.

Ali Imran Ramj of Forward Bloc will contest from
Goalpokhar and former Parliamentary Affairs minister Prabodh
Chandra Sinha of DSP from Egra.

All the 10 seats, except for the Belgachia East, fell
vacant after the MLAs got elected to Lok Sabha.

Trinamool Congress, on the other hand, will field
candidates in seven seats leaving three for Congress, party
General Secretary Mukul Roy said.
