Lone BJP member stages walk-out from West Bengal Assembly

The lone BJP MLA in the West Bengal Assembly Shamik Bhattacharya on Thursday staged a walk out from the House as Speaker Biman Banerjee did not allow him to refer to the law and order issue in Birbhum district.

Kolkata: The lone BJP MLA in the West Bengal Assembly Shamik Bhattacharya on Thursday staged a walk out from the House as Speaker Biman Banerjee did not allow him to refer to the law and order issue in Birbhum district.

Five MLAs including Bhattacharya, Asit Mitra of Congress and Anisur Rahman of CPI(M) sought to raise the same issue during mention hour but Banerjee contended that since a no-confidence motion had already been admitted in this regard, the matter could be discussed on the day of discussion.

Bhattacharya soon stood up from his seat and came down to well demanding to know why the issue should not be allowed to be raised during mention hour itself.

Later, he staged a walk out from the House for the day.

Other MLAs who had also wanted to bring up the issue did not join the walkout.
