Kolkata: Former Indian football skipper Baichung Bhutia is set to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on Trinamool Congress ticket, party chief Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday.
Along with Bhutia, film personalities Moon Moon Sen, Deb and Shatabdi Roy will be contesting the elections on TMC ticket.
While Bhutia will contest the LS polls from Darjeeling, Sen, who is the daughter of Bengali actress Suchitra Sen, will be contesting from Bankura. Deb is in the fray from Ghatal in West Midnapore district.
The Election Commission today announced a nine-phase election to 16th Lok Sabha between April 7 and May 12.
CEC VS Sampath said that the counting of votes will be held on May 16 and will be over in a day.
