Luggage trolleys for senior citizens introduced at Howrah station

The railways have introduced modern luggage trolleys, operated by Rail Yatri Sevaks, for the convenience of senior citizens and ladies at Howrah station in West Bengal, the Rajya Sabha was informed Friday.

New Delh: The railways have introduced modern luggage trolleys, operated by Rail Yatri Sevaks, for the convenience of senior citizens and ladies at Howrah station in West Bengal, the Rajya Sabha was informed Friday.

It has been decided to extend this facility to Sealdah, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram stations in a phased manner, Minister of State for Railways Bharatsinh Solanki said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha.

The scheme has been sponsored by the State Bank of India. These trolleys can be booked in advance through specific telephone numbers notified for the purpose or at the nominated counters on arrival at the station.
Replying to another query, Solanki said that between April 2010 and Feb 23, 2011, the number of incidents of trespassing at unmanned level crossings decreased from 57 to 37 in comparison to the corresponding period the previous year.
