Major arms haul in Junglemahal

In a raid at Dakshinkhola and Bathri villages, one AK-47 rifle, three INSAS rifles, one carbine, one musket, 70 kg of explosive powder were seized.

Midnapore: Joint forces seized a
huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives from two
villages in Maoist-hit Salboni area in West Midnapore district
on Saturday.

In a raid at Dakshinkhola and Bathri villages, one
AK-47 rifle, three INSAS rifles, one carbine, one musket, 70
kg of explosive powder and 72 kg of cartridges were seized,
police sources said.

The raid followed information given by four persons
detained from Chhotokalsibhanga village yesterday, they said.

The security forces also seized 90 kg of explosive powder
from Bathri village, the largest haul in recent times, the
sources said.

Five more persons suspected to be Maoists were being
questioned, the sources said.

Meanwhile, a Midnapore court remanded three Maoists to
10 days police custody and another to 14 days jail custody.
