Mamata accuses CPI-M of betraying people

Firing a fresh salvo at CPI-M, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said it always betrayed people by making false promises before elections and conveniently forgetting them afterwards.

Kakdwip (WB): Firing a fresh salvo at CPI-M,
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said it always
betrayed people by making false promises before elections and
conveniently forgetting them afterwards.

"The CPI-M makes false promises on development to people
before elections and forgets them later after their purpose is
served," said Banerjee, who was here to hand over cheques of
Rs two lakh each to families of the victims of a trawler
mishap near here.

On October 30, 83 people died after a trawler with 246
passengers on board capsized in Muri Ganga river near here.

Banerjee alleged the state government announced ex-gratia
to the victims with its eyes firmly set on the Assembly
elections early next year.

"If CPI-M was so generous and kindhearted to the people,
then why compensation was not given to the families of
Nandigram victims even after so many months?" she asked.

Banerjee said TC is against forcible acquisition of land
for industry and claimed it was because of her party`s
agitation in Nandigram and Singur that a move had been made to
bring about changes in the Land Acquisition Act.
