Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O`Brien on Wednesday confirmed that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has received an invitation to attend an event to mark former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru`s 125th birth anniversary, which is being organised by the Congress.
"I can confirm that Mamata Banerjee`s office has [received] an invitation for Pandit Nehru`s 125-year programme. She has an invitation for the November 17 and 18," O`Brien told ANI.
"What I can`t tell you whether she is going or not going. I think she will decide that in the next few days, depending on what next of her programme is," he added.
According to reports, the Congress has invited various like-minded political parties from within the country and leaders from abroad for a conference in the national capital to commemorate the birth anniversary of Nehru.
Apart from Banerjee, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar have also been invited. Conspicuously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s name doesn`t feature in the list of invitees.
