Mamata's nephew slapped at rally, attacker badly beaten by TMC workers

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek was slapped by a man while addressing youth TMC rally on Sunday.

The unidentified man got on the dais during Abhishek's address and lunged forward to slap him. The attacker was quickly taken away by the security officials after the incident which happened in East Midnapore.

It is yet to be ascertained the motive behind the man slapping Mamata's nephew during the TMC rally.

TMC leader Derek O'Brien, on the slap incident, said that it could be a handy work of an outsider and that they are still looking into it. "Someone wanted to come on stage to click a photo with him, may be he was slapped on that pretext," he said.

 

The attacker was badly thrashed by the TMC workers after the incident and is said to have been rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He is undergoing treatment.

Reports are also saying that the man was a disgruntled TMC man and supporter of Suvendhu Adhikari, who was replaced by Abhishek as party's youth chief by Mamata.

In the latest development, Trinamool workers, protesting after the slap, have blocked the roads in Chandipur area.

Reacting on the slap incident, senior CPI leader Atul Anjan said that the matter does not involve any outsider, it is an internal dispute of the Trinamool Congress.
