Kolkata: Already facing flak for her controversial statements on the growing incidents of rape in the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee came under fresh attack after her nephew slapped a traffic cop for daring to stop him.

As per reports, Mamata’s nephew Akash Mukherjee’s car was stopped by an on duty policeman in Khidderpore for violating traffic rules – as per reports he was driving the wrong way on a one-way road.

Akash and two of his friends were infuriated. They stepped out of the car and abused the cop, with Akash asking him threateningly, “Don’t you know that I am Didi’s nephew?”

Akash then slapped the cop, while his friends threw in a couple of punches, reports said.

They were taken to a nearby police station but after the cops got to know of the link with the Chief Minister, they were allowed to leave without any case being filed.

However, after the local media started to report the incident, Akash Banejree was arrested.

TMC leader and minister in Mamata’s cabinet Rirhad Hakim was quoted as saying by a news channel that ‘it is a normal incident and law will take its own course’.

“It is the principle of Mamata Banerjee that law will take its own course,” he said.

However, the CPI(M) has latched on to the issue and is criticising the misrule under TMC.
