Burdwan: A man, who allegedly had an illicit relation with the daughter of his sister-in-law, was lynched by local people in Burdwan today.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Pankaj Mani said 40-year-old Pralay Bhattacharjee was beaten to death at Baro Nilpur locality of the town.

Pralay and the daughter of his wife's sister had made a CD of their intimate moments, Mani said adding the CD came to the hands of of a group of local youths recently.

The two families live in neighbouring localities. When Pralay's wife went to her sister's place last evening, they had an altercation with locals, following which the police rescued them and brought them to the police station for some time.

Knowing all this, when Pralay went to that locality and enquired about last evening's incident, local people pounced on him and assaulted him, Mani said adding he died during treatment at hospital.

Local people alleged that Pralay, a private tutor by profession, and the girl, a third year college student, had the affair since 2008.

Pralay had a school going son.

Pralay's elder brother lodged a complaint against the members of a local club accusing them of the killing.
