Midnapore: Three CRPF personnel were injured
in an ambush by Maoists at Lakshmanpur forest area in West Midnapore district Wednesday morning, police said.
The Maoists fired on a CRPF patrol in the forest under
Salboni police station, injuring three securitymen including
one person seriously.
The injured personnel were taken to CRPF medical camp
in the area. The seriously injured CRPF man was being taken to Kolkata.
Police claimed four to five Maoists were also injured
when the CRPF personnel returned the fire and they were
believed to have been taken away by the ultras.
A combing operation was launched after the ambush.
This was the first such attack by Maoists on security
personnel after the new government led by Mamata Banerjee took
over in West Bengal.
