Maoists may launch another Shilda-type attack

Jhargram: Security has been beefed up in West Bengal`s West Midnapore district following intelligence reports that Maoists could launch another Shilda-type attack soon.
An intelligence report submitted to the state government last Tuesday has warned of the possibility, top police sources said.
Aimed at shoring up battered morale of Maoists in the face of consistent anti-Naxal operation, the attack is likely to be led by Maoist leader Kishenji`s brother Venugopal Rao who has entered forested regions of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts, collectively known as Jangalmahal, the report said.
Incidentally, the intelligence warning has come even before the three-member inquiry committee into the February 15 attack on the Eastern Frontier Rifles` (EFR) Shilda camp in which 24 jawans were killed, submitted its report.
The report, according to sources, said that the attack could be launched anywhere in Jangalmahal like Salboni, Goaltore or Belpahari.
Joint-security forces were keeping a strict watch on the Belpahari-Jharkhand corridor through which Maoists come to Lalgarh, they said.
When asked about the report, West Midnapore SP Manoj Kumar Verma, however, said, "I have not heard of any such thing".
